Holyrood Unit 2 offline for summer maintenance (Updated)
September 15
Unit 2 has been returned to service after completion of annual summer maintenance.
June 16 – Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is advising that a generating unit at the Holyrood Thermal Generating Station has been removed from service to complete annual summer maintenance.
Unit 2 has been removed from service until early September. Hydro’s annual maintenance season generally begins in April when customer electricity demand begins to decline and extends to November in preparation for the winter months.
During this time, Hydro maintains, replaces, and upgrades electricity equipment throughout the province. This includes preventative and corrective maintenance work and inspections, as well as larger capital projects.
Generation units and transmission lines will be removed from service for periods of time in order to complete the work. These yearly planned outages are closely monitored and coordinated to ensure customer supply and system reserve requirements are met.
Hydro’s maintenance program is part of the Company’s mandate to invest in the province’s electricity system to ensure delivery of safe and reliable electricity for customers. All major equipment advisories will be posted on our website here.
