Using solar energy to help power communities

In September 2023, through the Independent Power Producer (IPP) Model, Hydro energized two solar projects, one in each of the isolated diesel systems of St. Lewis and Black Tickle.

Each of these solar projects consists of an 18 kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system, installed on the roof of the respective local Community Centres. Through these types of solar projects, the communities of St. Lewis and Black Tickle will reduce their reliance on diesel generated electricity, resulting in a steady revenue stream back to the communities, all while maintaining their connection to our Electricity System.

These projects were installed under direction of NunatuKavut Community Council – a partnership which supports our Strategic Plan goal to integrate renewable energy resources in local communities.
