How to Spot a Utility Scam

Unfortunately, utility scams are becoming more common. Here’s how to spot a scam and what you should do if you think you’re being scammed.

How to spot a scammer:
– The caller may pretend to be from Hydro and their caller ID may even say Hydro.
– Caller could indicate you owe money and threaten to disconnect your power.
– Caller will demand immediate payment be made by a credit card.

Suspect a scammer? – Here’s what you should do:
1. Hang up immediately.
2. Report the incident to the police.
3. Call us at 1-888-737-1296 to verify you’re speaking to a Hydro representative.
4. Never provide payment over the phone.

Remember, Hydro will never:
– Call and demand payment – notifications are always sent by mail first.
– Ask for credit card information over the phone.
