Equipment Advisory: Transmission line in Labrador West offline during equipment upgrades

September 17th, 2019

Hydro is advising customers in Labrador City, Wabush and area that one of the main transmission lines to the region will be out of service until late October while planned equipment upgrades are carried out at the Wabush Terminal Station.

There are no anticipated customer impacts as a result of this work, however customers are reminded that it’s always important to be prepared for outages. In the event of an outage, we will provide updates and information for customers at nlhydro.com/outages, through our customer service line at 1-888-737-1296, or on Facebook and Twitter.

Work at the Wabush Terminal Station is being completed as part of our annual maintenance program. To ensure safe, reliable electricity for customers, Hydro maintains, replaces, and upgrades electricity equipment throughout the province each year. This includes preventative and corrective maintenance work and inspections, as well as larger capital projects. Generation units and transmission lines may be removed from service for periods of time in order to complete the work.

Planned equipment outages are closely monitored and coordinated to ensure customer electricity needs and system requirements are met.

This advisory is part of Hydro’s commitment to keeping customers informed about the electricity system. For important power outage preparation and safety tips, visit https://nlhydro.com/safety/power-outage-safety/
