UPDATED – Outage for Customers in Happy Valley Goose Bay Going Ahead Today

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is advising customers in Happy Valley Goose Bay and the communities of North West River, Sheshatshui, and Mud Lake that repairs will be going ahead today on the transmission line from Churchill Falls to Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Power will be impacted in these areas during the repair work which will start at about 4:00 p.m and is expected to last six hours. The back up gas turbine will provide power to a portion of HVGB, including emergency services.

Customers who continue to receive power from the gas turbine can assist Hydro by keeping power usage to a minimum during the outage to help with system stability and to ensure additional customers do not have to be taken offline.  Turning back the heat by a few degrees and reducing the use of hot water and appliances will be useful and appreciated.

We thank you for you patience and will provide updates regularly. For details on streets affected, click here: https://my.nlhydro.com/portal/PreLogOutages.aspx

UPDATE  – January 13

Crews have further evaluated the situation and due, to safety concerns, the outage in the HVGB region has been postponed and will NOT take place tonight.

The repairs on the transmission line from Churchill Falls to HVGB will still need to be completed and we are currently determining the best window of time over the next day or so for the work to be safely done with the least customer impact. We will give customers as much advance notice as possible.

We apologise for the inconvenience and we thank you for your understanding.
