Planning for the Future.
In 2019, we sent a survey to members of our Electricity Feedback Panel to learn more about residents’ interest in electric vehicles.
Read more >Hydro is leading the charge for electric vehicles in Newfoundland and Labrador, working with the provincial and federal governments to build the province’s first fast-charging network – and helping to bring us more in line with electric vehicle use seen across the country. We are excited to advance this initiative and support a greener future for our province with clean, renewable, road trip ready energy in 2021.
In 2021, the network will include 14 charging locations from St. John’s to Port aux Basques, enabling EV users to drive across the island portion of the province without having to worry about where to plug in next. EV users will have access to fast chargers at convenient locations averaging every 70km along the TCH, as well as one charger in Gros Morne National Park. Most chargers are located at popular rest stops and service stations, making it easier than ever to charge on the go.
No matter what type of EV you drive, you’ll be on your way faster with the new charging network!

Read more >The fast-charging network includes 14 charging stations, located on average every 70 km along the TCH from St. John’s to Port aux Basques, as well as one location in Gros Morne National Park. This means our province and many tourism destinations will be connected with the network of fast charging stations already established throughout Canada.
At each location, you can expect an efficient stop with the power to fast-charge your EV to 80% in less than an hour – getting you back on the road in no time!
