Payment Options

There are a number of different ways to pay your Hydro bill each month. Consider the options and choose the one that’s best for you.

At a financial institution

Pay your bill at an automated teller machine (ATM), over the phone, in person, or through your bank’s online bill payment option. Please allow time for processing, as there could be a delay when paying your Hydro bill at a financial institution. Often, payments made at a bank are not received until several days later.

By mail

You can pay your bill by cheque or money order through the mail. Make cheques and money orders payable to Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro and mail, with your bill stub, in the blue envelope provided.

Note: Please do not send cash in the mail.

By pre-authorized payment

Say goodbye to worrying about cheques getting delayed or lost in the mail, missing your due date, or making a special trip to the bank to settle your bill. When you sign up for our Pre-Authorized Payment Plan, paying your bill couldn’t be easier. Every month, your payment amount is automatically withdrawn from your bank account. You’ll receive a message on your bill advising you of the date and amount of the deduction. You can also combine pre-authorized payments with our Equal Payment Plan (EPP).

By Equal Payment Plan (EPP)

You can pay for your annual electricity usage in 12 equal monthly payments with our Equal Payment Plan. How does it work? First, we look at your consumption for the previous 12 months and determine your average monthly usage. Then, using our current electricity rates and your average monthly usage, we calculate your monthly payment for the next year.

Each year, we compare your actual consumption to the billed amounts and adjust as necessary, providing you with a credit if you used less electricity that you paid for or increasing the monthly payments to balance out the additional charges. If necessary, quarterly adjustments can also be made. Your meter will still be read and you will still receive a bill showing the actual amount of electricity used.

Signing up is easy, just contact us to make arrangements.

By credit card

While we do not accept credit card payments, you can pay your Hydro bill with a MasterCard, American Express, or VISA* using Plastiq, a third-party online payment service that collects credit card payments for customers and redirects them for a fee of 2.5%.

To complete a transaction, you will need your credit card details, payment amount, and the name and account number of your Hydro account. Payment processing times are approximately 3-6 business days. Click below or contact Plastiq at plastiq-service@plastiq.com to get started.

*Plastiq accepts VISA cards issued by 8 of the 10 issuers in Canada. Please be advised that payments made to Plastiq using VISA cards issued by either TD Bank or RBC are treated as cash advances by these financial institutions. As a result, these transactions will incur additional charges/fees typically associated with credit card cash advances. Points are not accrued on payments made with these cards.
