Customer Interest Assistance Program

Through the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Customer Interest Assistance Program, interest charges on electricity bills will be waived for eligible customers beginning June 1, 2020. The program is aimed at helping customers who may be financially impacted by COVID-19.

 

Who is eligible?

Residential and business customers are eligible to receive help with interest charges on their bill if:

  • You have an active electricity account between June 1, 2020 and August 31, 2021
  • You continue to make regular payments on your account, as agreed upon with your utility

Residential Customers

For interest charged on your account in May 2020:
If you’re a residential customer who had interest charges on your electricity account in May 2020, those charges will be automatically waived on your bill as of June 1, 2020. The Interest Assistance Program will be automatically applied to your account at that time and you have been automatically enrolled in the program. No application is required.

Interest will not be charged on future bills up to August 31, 2021* as long as regular payments are made on your account. Contact us at 1-888-737-1296 to discuss payment arrangements.

For interest charges after June 1, 2020:
If you’re a residential customer who was not automatically entered in the Interest Assistance Program on June 1, 2020, contact us at 1-888-737-1296 to confirm eligibility, register for the program and discuss payment options available to you.


How do I know if the Interest Assistance Program has been applied on my bill?
All residential customers with interest charges on their bill in May 2020 will automatically have those charges waived on your bill as of June 1, 2020. If the Interest Assistance Program was applied to your account, the following message will appear on your monthly bill: The Interest Assistance Program has been applied on your account – no interest has been charged. Business Customers

Business customers (non-residential and general service) are required to apply for interest assistance on their accounts. Please contact a member of our team at 1-888-737-1296 to determine eligibility and apply for the Interest Assistance Program.
