Community Partnerships
We might be responsible for providing power, but we know that our province’s volunteers, not-for-profit groups and charitable organizations keep our communities buzzing.
Learn more about some of our community partners and the important initiatives and programming they help deliver in our province:
For more than 20 years, we’ve been helping Kids Eat Smart deliver school breakfast programs to children around the province. With Hydro’s support and many dedicated volunteers, we help provide the energy kids need to start their day right.
Since Ronald McDonald House first opened its doors in St. John’s, NL, our employees have been proud to support programming and services that help keep families close when they need it most. Employees regularly volunteer at the house, participate in key fundraising initiatives, and for the past nine years, Hydro has been the presenting sponsor of the annual Red Shoe Crew Walk for Families.
At Hydro, we’re focused on building a work environment that is diverse, representative of the communities where we live and work, and respectful of our differences. We’re proud to work with WRDC to help raise awareness about career opportunities available to women in STEM-related fields – through programs like Techsploration and the STEMforGIRLS Club, as well as our Women in Trades & Technology Scholarships Program.
Through our continued support of the Green Team Program, Hydro helps facilitate valuable skills development, training and employment opportunities for youth in the areas of environmental and cultural conservation.
Helping to build healthy communities is a priority for Hydro. Our continued support of the HeartSmart Kids™ program helps educators teach children and their families how to lead healthy lifestyles using free virtual resources for every student in grades K-6 in schools across Newfoundland and Labrador. With Hydro’s support, the Canadian Cancer Society partners with the Candlelighter’s Association of Newfoundland and Labrador to support its annual Camp Delight program. The summer camp program gives children and youth who have been diagnosed with cancer an opportunity to participate in fun activities with family and siblings.
In 2020, we helped make it easier for people of all ages to connect with nature by supporting Nature Newfoundland & Labrador’s Birdwatching Backpack Accessibility Program, a pilot project at local public libraries that offers backpacks filled with everything needed to try birdwatching. Learn more.
