Scholarships

Each year, Hydro supports educational and academic achievements by providing scholarships to students at Memorial University, College of the North Atlantic and to children of Nalcor Energy and Hydro employees and retirees who achieve high academic standings. The scholarship program represents Hydro’s commitment to help the province’s youth further their educational studies. In 2009, Hydro plans to award $30,000 in scholarships to Newfoundland and Labrador students.

External Scholarships
Hydro makes annual educational contributions to Memorial University’s Schools of Business and Engineering and the College of the North Atlantic. All scholarships are awarded by the respective educational institutions. In 2009, Hydro will invest $19,000 for the following external scholarships:

Memorial University

  • School of Business: Five scholarships are provided valued at $1,000 each.
  • School of Engineering and Applied Science: Six scholarships are provided valued at $1,000 each.

College of the North Atlantic

  • Business Studies: One scholarship is provided valued at $1,000.
  • Engineering Technology: Three scholarships are provided valued at $1,000 each.
  • Industrial Trades: Three scholarships are provided valued at $1,000 each.
  • Happy Valley-Goose Bay Campus: One $500 scholarship is provided for students in the Engineering Technology and/or Industrial Trades Programs.
  • Labrador West Campus: One $500 scholarship is provided for students in the Engineering Technology and/or Industrial Trades Programs.

Internal Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded annually to children of Nalcor Energy, Hydro and Nalcor Energy subsidiary company employees and retirees who achieve high academic standing in High School and who demonstrate a commitment to volunteer in their community. Scholarship is valued at $1,000 each.
