Power Watch no longer in effect
Update 8:00PM – The peak consumption period for this evening has passed and the Power Watch has now ended. Demand on the system is forecast to be lower tomorrow morning therefore the power watch will not remain in effect.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is advising customers on the Avalon Peninsula of a Power Watch in effect for today’s peak period – 5:00pm – 8:00pm.
No immediate action is required by customers, however the electricity system on the Avalon is being monitored very closely and Hydro will advise if anything changes.
Late this afternoon we experienced a trip at the Hardwoods Gas Turbine resulting in a Power Watch.
Unit 1 at the Holyrood Thermal Generating Plant is operating at a reduced capacity to allow investigation into a potential boiler tube leak, however all other generating units are online and available to meet customer demand and there is no customer impact anticipated.
A Power Watch is in effect to ensure close and careful monitoring of the system and active customer communication.
This advisory is part of Hydro’s commitment to keeping customers more informed and educated on the status of the electricity system and system events.
