Advisory: Emergency outage for some areas of Upper Lake Melville this Sunday
Hydro is advising customers in Upper Lake Melville of an planned outage this Sunday.
The outage is required in order to make emergency repairs to a damaged power line. While the cause of the damage is undetermined, it appears it may have been as a result of shotgun shots. Hydro reminds the public to please avoid hunting or discharging a firearm too close to power lines and other electrical equipment, as safety hazards and equipment damage can result.
The outage will take place Sunday, October 20, 2024 from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The following areas will be affected:
- All of 5 Wing Goose Bay
- North West River Road starting from the Dock area, up to and including the communities of Sheshatshiu and North West River
- Canadian Side – Blocklab only
Backup generation will be used to maintain service during this time for as many customers as possible. However the following other areas may also experience power disruption:
- Cartwright Crescent, Cartwright Road, Corte Real Road number 1 to number 31 (odd numbers) number 2 to number 16 (even numbers), Grand Street, Grenfell Street (from Grand Street to Corte Real Road), lower end of Hamilton River Road (corner of Grand Street to Markland Road), Haven Street, Markland Road (Corte Real Road to Grand Street)
- The community of Mud Lake, Mud Lake Road, Commercial Street, Corte Real Road (Corner of Grenfell Street to Corner of Saunders Street even numbers), Elizabeth Avenue, Hamilton River Road (Montagnais Street to corner of Markland Road), Markland Road (Corte Real Road to Hamilton River Road), Montagnais Road, Paddon Road, Perrault Place, Riverview Drive, Saunders Street, Travespine Road
- Adams Loop, Bird Street, Baikie Place, Blake Drive, Campbell Street, Deharving Drive (all odd numbers), Ford Street, Garland Street, Groves Street, Hamel Street, Hefler Street, Ikey Street, Johnny Hill Road, Kelland Drive, Learning Street, Lethbridge Street, Lyall Street, Martin Crescent, Mclean Crescent, Mesher Street, Michelin Street, Mountain View, Mitchell Street, Pottle Street, Rendell Street, Roberts Road (number 70), Tooktoshina Drive, Transmitter Road, White Crescent (number 1 to 35 odd numbers only) Winsor Drive (number 75 to 91 odd numbers only) and Voisey’s Drive.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is advising Upper Lake Melville customers about work being carried out at the Muskrat Falls switchyard on August 7th and 8th from approximately 8AM-4PM each day.
While we do not expect any customer impact, due to the nature of the work there is an increased risk of customer outages in the Upper Lake Melville area.
In the event of an equipment trip during this work, there may be a brief outage (less than 30 minutes) for customers in the area. Customers on the island and in Labrador West would not be impacted.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is informing customers in Change Islands of a series of daily outages affecting sections of the community, from June 11 to 15.
These outages are required for our teams to complete critical capital upgrade work to the distribution system to ensure reliable service.
More details on the areas affected by each outage can be found below.
Tuesday, June 11 | 8am – 4pm
Areas affected: All customers on Change Islands, including the school.
Wednesday, June 12 | 9am – 3pm
Areas affected: From the ferry to the causeway. This includes the Interpretation Centre, Corrick’s Cove and Diamond’s Point areas. Skinner’s Harbour is not affected.
Thursday, June 13 | 9am – 3pm
Areas affected: From the Post Office to the end of North Tickle Road. This includes Tickle Point Road.
Friday, June 14 | 9am – 3pm
Areas affected: From the Bell Aliant building to the end of Seal Harbour Road. This includes Ledrew’s Lane.
Saturday, June 15 | 9am – 3pm
Areas affected: From the Community Hall to the end of North Tickle Road.
For your safety and convenience: Residents and visitors are asked to please be aware of work activity, crews, equipment and vehicles in the area during this period.
