ADVISORY: Update on planned, extended outages in Labrador West – June, September 2024

June 6, 2024

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is providing an update to customers in Labrador West about extended power outages planned for 2024.

There are typically two annual outages which affect all customers in Labrador City, Wabush and surrounding areas (including IOC and Tacora Resources). These outages allow Hydro to safely perform critical annual maintenance and equipment upgrades at the Wabush and Churchill Falls terminal stations, on the transmission lines from Churchill Falls and on the distribution system in the Labrador West area.

There will not be an outage for customers in June. Our teams will still conduct important maintenance needed on the system, but will not require an outage for the work needed at this time.

A customer outage is currently planned for Sunday, September 8, 2024 to complete remaining annual maintenance. This outage will allow our employees to safely complete the work needed at that time. We will share more information with customers on our website and social media as we get closer to that date and details are finalized.

We understand the impact these outages have on customers. Our teams are always working to find solutions to help mitigate these outages wherever possible. Thank you for your continued understanding as we complete this essential work on the electricity system to ensure continued reliability for Labrador West.
